About this mezcal Contraluz Mezcal Cristalino is sourced by mezcalero Don Carlos León Monterrubio from producers in the Tlacolula de Matamoros region of Oaxaca. Don Carlos transforms the joven Maguey Espadin (Agave angustifolia) mezcal into an aged cristalino. Originally, releases of this mezcal were aged for more than 12 months in American oak barrels and then filtered. As of 2022, the process involves resting the mezcal for 6 months in charred American oak barrels before being filtered through activated charcoal. Related
